Our commitment

Everyone should be able to find their way around this website, whatever their sight, hearing, mobility or way of thinking, and whatever they use to browse. Belonging starts before anyone arrives, and a website that shuts people out has already turned them away.

We aim to meet Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA.

What we have done

• Pages are built from ordinary headings, lists and landmarks, so a screen reader announces the structure rather than a wall of text.
• Everything works with a keyboard alone, and the item you are on is always visibly outlined.
• Text colours are checked automatically. The site's colour scheme cannot be saved unless body text and headings meet the contrast ratio the guidelines require, so a well-meant redesign cannot quietly make the site unreadable.
• Every image added to the site requires a written description before it can be saved. This is enforced when the image is uploaded, not left to good intentions.
• Videos are shown as a still image and load only when you ask for one. Nothing plays, moves or makes sound by itself.
• Layouts reflow to narrow screens and to enlarged text without content being cut off or trapped in a sideways scroll.
• Motion is reduced automatically if your device is set to prefer that.
• Forms have visible labels, and errors are described in words rather than by colour alone.

Where we fall short
